This week, I worked on a commission painting of Oliver the Poodle. Above is the original photo, below is the finished 8x10" portrait of Oliver.
Oliver ended up living a hard life. He may have possibly come from a puppy mill, born and raised in a crate. His owner found him while walking her dog one day. Oliver ran with another dog daily, and was tormented by children and teenagers chasing him all over the neighborhood...why? Because there was a poster up about a lost poodle with a 1000 dollar reward on his head. It took 6 months for his rescue owner to make friends with him and make him a part of her family because Oliver was fear aggressive, space aggressive, food aggressive, people aggressive, and dog aggressive. After 2 1/2 years of working with Oliver, his owner was finally able to take him to visit others without him peeing in their house or biting them when they reached for him. His owner says, "He was adorable and everyone loved him. He did know how to charm people." Oliver passed away in October 2008. May he rest in peace, and may he always be remembered.
